Limpopo teacher faces match fixing charge

…LIMPOPO – A high school teacher appeared in Magatle Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday) for allegedly trying to fix a soccer match between a school academy and a club, Limpopo police said.

The case was postponed to September 30 for further police
investigations and the teacher, Eric Legong, 36, was granted R500
bail.

“The man was from Senwabarwana High School and could facilitate match fixing between Lebash Academy and Mathote Football Club in return for R1000,” Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said.

Legong was arrested in a trap set by police last Sunday, after a
club official tipped them off about possible match fixing.

He did not know what connections the teacher had to the Lebash
Academy soccer team.

The game was set to take place this weekend and Mathote Football Club would have won if the bribe had been successful, he said. – Sapa
