Gauteng man denied bail in FS meat case
…Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday denied bail to a
Kempton Park man accused of cheating Free State farmers and meat
sellers out of livestock and meat worth R1 million.
The court found it would be in the interests of justice to
further detain Michael Senekal, 43.
The case was postponed until October 13 for trial and for the
State to centralise other charges against Senekal in other
provinces.
Senekal was recently arrested in Gauteng on 19 charges.
The meat trader, who bought meat and supplied it to Gauteng
butcheries, allegedly approached various Free State business
people, including farmers, between February 2006 and October 2007.
After Senekal received their livestock and meat, he apparently
disappeared without paying.
Free State Hawks spokesman Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the
matter was brought to the attention of the local commercial crime
unit, which led to Senekal’s arrest.
He faces charges of fraud, theft and forgery.- Sapa
