Mosh graduates ready to face the world

…BY THATO PHAKELAGraduates of Mosh Schl of Catering and Baking after receiving their certificates on Saturday

MASERU – Over 250 graduates of the Mosh School of Catering and Baking were presented with certificates last Saturday after completing a six-month programme.

The graduation ceremony took place at the Sefika Hall, where relatives and friends were at hand to witness the happy occasion.

One of the graduates, Nthamane Mabeha was over the moon after receiving her “hard-earned” certificate.

“The past six months have been quite taxing, as there was so much to do. Today, I am happy to be a qualified caterer and baker. I am looking forward to starting my own business as soon as I have scrapped enough funds to finance it,” Mabeha said.

Mabeha told Life & Style she had always been passionate about baking and cooking in general. “I have learnt so much here and gained a lot of experience too.”

Mabeha is currently volunteering at a local hotel where he is working in one of its restaurants.

The school principal, ‘Mamoshe Makumane said she was happy with the graduates’ performance.

“This was by far, the largest and best group to graduate at the institute since its inception in 2003. I am happy to be making such a contribution to so many people’s lives.”

Makumane, who is a fervent cook and qualified teacher, believes a woman’s place is in the kitchen.

She said among her objectives in starting the college, was helping in mitigating the effects of the high unemployment level in the country.

“When I started out seven years ago, I had only six students who are today working in various local hotels. Some are cooks and chefs, while others are running their own successful catering businesses. Their number keeps growing annually and that gives me so much joy.”

She added: “I saw a group of determined people who wanted to do something with their lives. I only gave them some general direction to help pursue their dreams and now they are ready to go out there and change their lives.”

One of the best-performing students is Rebecca Nchee, who is in her 60s. Together with fellow students ‘Malebohang Masoabi, TÅ¡epang Shale and Simba Chakaka, Nchee graduated at the top of her class before she scooped the best performer’s award in level three of the course.
