Bank manager held hostage in his house
…FICKSBURG – A local bank manager was held hostage in his house by three robbers for seven hours before they took him to his bank and forced him to open the safe, Free State police said today (Thursday).
The 36-year-old banker was ambushed in his home at 10pm on Wednesday night, said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.
The trio tied him up with duct tape and allegedly assaulted him. Mophiring said the man only sustained a few bruises.
Between 5am and 6am on Thursday, the three took him to the bank where they forced him to open the safe. They took an undisclosed amount of money and a cheque before fleeing in an unidentified car.
Police needed to “dig deep” to determine how the suspects knew where the manager lived. They have asked local residents to come forward with any information they might have.
Mophiring would not disclose the name of the bank, saying it could interfere with police investigations. – Sapa
